There are several ways to reach the summit of mount Slamet, but east route through Purbalingga regency is the most common one. Through Bambangan village, Kutabawa village or Dukuh Gunung Malang, Serang village, Karangreja District for exact.
The distance between Purbalingga city to the top, more or less 36 km. With the height of 3.418 meter or the highest in Java Island, the mount hiker should be more carefull because of the rain and the fog.
Mount Slamet or Gunung Slamet is an active stratovolcano in Central Java, Indonesia. It has a cluster of around three dozens of cinder cones on the lower southeast-northeast flanks and a single cinder cone on the western flank. The volcano is composed by two overlapping edifices. Four craters are found at the summit. Historical eruptions have been recorded since the eighteenth century.
Mount Slamet is the highest volcano of Central Java province. The Slamet region includes about 50.000 ha of tropical rainforest with a still rich biodiversity: eight species of endemic birds of Java and four species of endemic primates do occur, amongst which the Java gibbon that was formerly assumed to live only in West Java. Its rainforest is also a very important water catchment area and source for irrigation for eight surrounding districts, and a subsistence source for the local societies.
