Tegal is a regency (Indonesian: kabupaten) in the northwestern part of Central Java province in Indonesia. Its capital is Slawi about 14 km on the south of Tegal city. This regency is bordered with Tegal city and Java Sea on the north, Pemalang Regency on the east, Banyumas Regency on the south, and Brebes Regency on the south and west.
Tegal Regency is one of the most populated regency in Central Java, especially in Tegal city and along the road Tegal – Slawi. In daily life, Tegal people using the Java Banyumasan Language with Tegal dialect.
Transportation
Tegal Regency is being passed by North Coast line main road, and Tegal is also main crossroad from pantura (north coast line) to the south of Central Java, like Purwokerto, Kebumen, and Yogyakarta.
Beside that, Tegal being passed by train that served north track train, and for the south track, only passed part of Tegal Regency, that area is in Prupuk, Margasari District. The train that served Tegal – Slawi – Prupuk route still can be used, but not the passenger train.
Economics
In Tegal Regency there are a lot of home industry, such as metal founding and processing, textile (convection and tratiditional weave), shuttle cock, furniture, and ceramics. And a lot of Tegal citizen working in agriculture field (paddy, second crop. Onion, chili, and sugar cane). On the fishery affair, most of Tegal community (especially in the coastal area) open "bandeng" and "windu" prawn fishponds. They also sell "nener/benur" (seed of bandeng fish). In stockbreeding area, a lot of Tegal community work on poultry-farm (for meat and for eggs), Tegal's duck (Indian Runner type) for supplying salty eggs in Brebes.
The Tegal community whose errant to other cities, like to open Warung Tegal (Warteg) or small restaurant that sells rice with vegetable and other side dishes known for its large amount and cheap price.
Others
- "Teh Poci" is one of Tegal's special beverages. This kind of tea is using a clay pot as the container and lump sugar. Peoples even have a "nick name" for this beverage, called "wasgitel" literally translated as fragrance, hot, sweet and condensed. Nowadays, Tegal is popular as on of the tea producer.
- Tegal's has its special cuisine such as Lamb Sate with soy sauce, Duck Sate, Ketupat Glabed, Kupat Blengong, etc.
