Sumedang Regency is located on the eastern side of West Java Province having bordered with Indramayu & Subang Regency in the north, Majalengka Regency in the east, Garut & Bandung in the south. Sumedang stood on the mainroad that linked Bandung & Cirebon. The area of the Sumedang Regency reached 15,220 Ha, with the number of inhabitants around 900,000 persons who were spread in 26 subdistrict territories.
Majorities of Sumedang people are worked in the agriculture sector.
At the beginning Sumedang Regency was a kingdom that ruled by King of Galuh. It's built by Prabu Geusan Ulun Adji Putih followed the ordered of Prabu Suryadewata before Galuh Palace being moved to Padjadjaran, Bogor.
After period of time, Sumedang had several changes of name i.e:
-Tembong Agung Kingdom with its Prabu Guru Adji Putih as a King during XII century.
-Himbar Buana Kingdom with its Prabu Tadjimalela as a King.
-Sumedang Larang with its Prince Angka Wijaya as a ruler on 1578.
Sumedang has a typical design of ancient city in Java which is Alun-Alun as a city center, Mosque on the right side.
