Pitana who is currently following the Global Tourism Forum in Andorra, a country town in the middle of Western Europe, or about 200 km north of Barcelona said the increased ranking it becomes a matter of pride for the world of tourism of Indonesia.
According to him, there was a significant increase for the ranking of competitiveness of Indonesian tourism. "There was stepping 11 steps, from the order of the 81 in the previous year to 70 this year," said Pitana.
In fact, he adds, RI tourism competitiveness ranking was still much higher than the Human Development Index (HDI) of Indonesia.
"HDI Indonesia is on the order of 95 of 139 countries, this means our tourism ranks much better," he said.
However, it has specifically proposed to revise the system and WEF competitiveness indicators of tourism that is used for tourism competitiveness index ranking countries in the world for this.
In recent years, WEF conducted a study on the competitiveness of tourism to the 139 countries in the world. According Pitana, the results of research that there are some indicators that are not fair by way of comparing one country to country. In addition, it is difficult to compare policies from one country to another because it has different regulations. It also suggested that tourism competitiveness assessment carried out not by comparing the inter-state. At the same forum, the WEF itself admits to have weaknesses in terms of systems and indicators for assessment in determining the competitiveness ranking of tourism. Therefore, the WEF promised to revise the system and the competitiveness ranking criteria.
