Ministry of Finance Building
Jl. Lapangan Banteng Timur, Jakarta Central Jakarta
This building is located on the East side of Lapangan Banteng (Banteng Square) and is the former Palace of Governor General Daendels. It was built at a time when the monetary situation was chaotic. Because of this, many of the building materials were taken from the collapsed Batavia Castle. In 1835 the lower sections of the building were used as a post office and a government printing office while the other sections were occupied by the Hoogarchief and Algemene Secretarie. In 1948 the building also housed the Department of Justice until the Department of Finance was moved in. Old employees of the department claim the building is haunted by ghosts - beautiful Dutch ladies and terrifying Dutch gentlemen.
