The Bemo is a minibus/mini bus which is used like a collecting taxi. They apply only in Indonesia as a typical means of transport, mainly to the suburban traffic.
Bemos drive on well-known routes and can be stopped at any time by using hand signals. One hand signal commonly used in Indonesia is with the palm facing downwards.
For stopping the Bemo, one gives a signal to the driver when you reach your desired destination, e.g. knock on the window or one says "kiri" (the Indonesian word for left), in Indonesia this means left-hand traffic prevails.
