Home Sleman Kaliadem
Kaliadem probably is one of the best sites to watch Merapi Volcano from a close distance. Itís about 6 km from there to its summit. This was the place where, last year, the hot lava from the crater was flowing down, setting afire warungs (eating-houses) and plantations, and burying them under the hot sands. People called Kaliadem the highway for the lava, spouting from the 2.900 m high volcano. But activity has become normal again and Kaliadem now is a famous spot, where the hidden and dangerous beauty is revealed. Just in front of us we can, at certain weather conditions, clearly see the dried rivers where the lava entered the slope of the volcano. The other places to spot Merapi are Kaliurang and Babadan.
In the early morning, and especially when there was rain the night before, the atmosphere usually is very clear. When the sun slowly and proudly discloses itself, with the dew glistering and the birds singing their welcome song to the sun, the huge and beautiful volcano is making his appearance.
